About St George’s School

Established in 1914, St. George’s School is a small independent school situated in Dunstable, Bedfordshire which has a long standing reputation for harmonising the best of contemporary teaching practice with a traditional regard for academic excellence and the individual child. Recognising that a secure and happy child will learn effectively, the school places great emphasis on providing a stable but diverse learning environment.

Stuart has worked at the school since 2007 and has a wealth of experience teaching. He has a particular interest in the teaching of Numeracy. He has served as Deputy Head Teacher since 2010, and was appointed Head Teacher in September 2019.

Designated Safeguarding Lead

Ellie has embedded the importance of Creative Arts within the curriculum at St. George’s since joining the teaching staff in late 2008. She has helped bring success to both individuals and the school in Speech and Drama. She has produced many fantastic school productions. Ellie became Head Teacher in September 2017 implementing her ideas throughout the school. She is now DS Lead.

Emma is a talented musician who has a love for words and Literacy. She has taught at the school since 2012. Emma runs the recorder club and the school choir.

Sophie Collingwood

Early Years Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead

Sophie joined the school in 2016 and is the qualified leader for our Forest School. She has creative flair enjoying art and drama. She helps bridge the transition from the Early Years Foundation to the National Curriculum.

Karen Kenyon

Teacher

Karen is a vastly experienced teacher who has been associated with the school since 1999 having held several different roles working across the age ranges. She has re-joined the school since raising her family and enjoys teaching Numeracy and Science.

Music Teacher

Daniel has been teaching individual drums and piano lessons since he joined in late 2014. His pupils have performed during our end of year productions.

Ruth Humphreys

French Teacher

Ruth is a member of the award winning ‘La Jollie Ronde’ team and has worked with the school teaching French to all year groups since 2010. She also runs the French Club.

Hilary is an experienced teaching assistant who rejoined the school in 2010. Her one to one work has helped numerous pupils’ progress.

Debbie has a wealth of experience at the school joining in 2003. She has a caring and nurturing approach towards the children and runs the Gardening Club.

Dance Teacher

Danielle has taught a variety of different dance genres at the school since early 2014. She helps choreograph routines for school performances. She runs the extra-curricular dance club.

This year’s theme for Children in Need was ‘5 to Thrive’. The children dressed up and spent the day doing activities to help them understand that getting active, giving, connecting, taking notice and being curious is great for our mental and physical wellbeing 😀
