This year’s Literacy Week saw St George’s School’s very first spelling bee.
Here at the school we realise what an important part spelling plays in literacy, so what better way to acknowledge the children’s efforts than a competition rewarding our school’s star spellers?
Every morning a different class had fun fighting it out in front of the rest of the school to be crowned class champion. Even Reception joined in spelling and reading simple words, whilst the older children were challenged to tackle words such as ‘rhubarb’ and ‘quality’.
In the Final, class champions Zara (Reception), Hannah (Year 1), Millie (Year 2), Kelly (Year 3) and Samuel (Years 4, 5 & 6) battled to spell commonly misspelled words, with Samuel eventually becoming St George’s overall Spelling Bee winner.
Congratulations to everyone who took part!
